Assemblyman Smullen Tours Air Force Research Lab, Highlights Its Role in Jobs, Security and Regional Growth
Assemblyman Robert Smullen (R,C-Mohawk Valley and the Adirondacks) visited the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) facilities in Rome. Smullen, who is a retired U.S. Marine Corps Colonel with 24 years of service, emphasized the importance of strong partnerships that advance defense technology while strengthening local communities.
“The Air Force Research Laboratory is a major asset for the region,” said Smullen. “It brings together the Air Force Research Lab, colleges and private companies to develop cutting-edge technology right here in the Mohawk Valley. This work strengthens our national security and creates good-paying jobs. It also attracts talented students in science, math and engineering, helping make our area a leader in advanced computing, cybersecurity and unmanned aerial systems.I’m very grateful for the warm welcome today and for all the valuable insights the team shared with me. Facilities like this are exactly what we need to grow our economy and build a strong future right here in New York.”
Smullen pledged continued support for initiatives that strengthen the Mohawk Valley’s tech ecosystem and ensure Upstate New York remains economically competitive.
