Smullen Fires Away Letter to Washington
Assemblyman Robert Smullen (R,C-Meco) yesterday cosigned a letter to President Trump and Senate Minority Leader Schumer. The letter urges for stimulus aid to be directed to volunteer fire departments and volunteer emergency medical services.
With 110,000 volunteer firefighters in New York state, the letter spells out direct assistance for volunteer responders. PPE reimbursement, federal aid for involuntary wage losses and stimulus funding for revenue losses are recommendations offered for those volunteering on the frontlines of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Much of New York state is protected by volunteer firemen and EMS workers, said Smullen. As Washington releases its fifth stimulus package, I am using my voice as a lawmaker and overseeing the correct allocation of federal money. We cannot afford to lose these volunteers who save lives and taxpayer money. We urge Washington to offer protection for these essential pillars of our communities.
