AM Shrestha secures $290,000 in capital funding for the Woodstock Library and the Town of Rosendale Community Center

Kingston, NY AM Shrestha announced that $165k has been secured for shelving at the new Woodstock library, which is under construction at 10 Dixon Avenue; and $125k to replace playground equipment at the Rosendale Community Center.

Woodstock Library

“We’ve been working with the Woodstock library board since last year to determine what would be the best help we can provide through our office,” said Shrestha, “And after going through many reiterations, we put in an application for a capital grant to cover the extensive shelving that needs to happen there. We fight to fully fund libraries every year in the budget – this year we restored $1,725,000 in Library Aid and $10 million for additional support in library construction, but this capital grant is an additional boost so that the money for the shelves don’t have to come out of the bund funds.”

“Assemblymember Shrestha’s commitment to libraries helped us secure funding for one of the most important components of any library – shelves for all our materials! We are grateful for her support as we continue to raise funds for Woodstock’s new community library,” said Library Director Ivy Glocker.

Rosendale Community Center

“The Rosendale Community Center serves as one of the go-to public spaces in the area – our office itself has used it to host a Medicare enrollment workshop, which was attended by many seniors, and its pool was a much-needed respite for many during the recent heatwave. The playground is another feature that’s convenient for many parents,” said Shrestha, “We worked with the Town Supervisor Jeanne Walsh last year to put in an application for $125k to more or less replace the playground equipment at the center because it’s past its useful lifespan. Paying for it through the grant we secured will mean that the residents of taxpayers don’t need to front the cost for it.”

Rosendale Town Supervisor Jeanne Walsh said, “I was thrilled to receive a notification from DASNY that we have been approved for the $125K for the Rosendale Playground. I convey my sincere gratitude to Assemblywoman Shrestha for this award and for her effort and commitment in assisting the Town of Rosendale in this important project that provides a safe place for children of our community to play. Also, a big thank you to her team for their assistance in getting this processed.”

“There are many more applications we’ve put in that we’re hoping to hear confirmation on soon,” said Shrestha, “The process takes some time, but one that I’m very excited about is to fund bus shelters across our district for UCAT.”

The Office of Assemblymember Shrestha has an open application process for those seeking capital grants. Please reach out to artschwagera@nyassembly.gov if you are seeking a grant on behalf of a municipality, non-profit, library, fire house, or a school district.
