Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein Hosts NYC Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings to Answer Your Summons Questions
Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein partnered with the NYC Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH) in sponsoring a pop-up site to answer constituent questions about summonses and assist with the hearing process. Over 130 local residents were served at the event, which was held on Monday, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM in front of Assemblyman Eichenstein’s district office located at 1310 48th Street.
The pop-up event educated and informed community members on what to do when they’ve received a summons. It was staffed by knowledgeable and dedicated OATH representatives who were available to help individuals navigate the process, to determine whether they have any previous outstanding summonses, to decide whether to submit a defense, or to schedule hearing appointments.
In one case, a resident expressed her gratitude to Assemblyman Eichenstein for hosting the event after she arrived with a four-year-old summons which was already in default. Nonetheless, OATH staffers were able to schedule a new hearing date for her summons.
“I thank the leadership of OATH for presenting this local and convenient opportunity for community members to solve their summons issues and to understand the hearing process,” said Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein. “Those who visited the pop-up location on Monday received invaluable assistance, helping to clarify a process that is often frustrating and confusing. They came away with a better understanding of the process as well as their legal rights.”
