Assemblymember Pichardo: Robert Garcia Was an Advocate for the Bronx, Minorities
“Former Congressman Robert Garcia was a dedicated public servant who worked tirelessly for the people of the Bronx. Congressman Garcia made the voices of the people heard loud and clear throughout his long career as an assemblyman, state senator and as a Member of Congress. His contributions were numerous, including adding ‘Hispanic’ as an option in the U.S. Census and sponsoring the bill to establish Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
“He is a personal hero to me and without him, I would not have been given the opportunity to serve my community as a young Latino. His spirit will stay with our community and his legacy will live on through his many triumphs and contributions.”
