Assemblymember Pichardo Commends Borough President Diaz on the State of the Bronx

February 23, 2017

“The Bronx is home to a diverse community and, as Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. mentioned in his State of the Borough address earlier today, we are becoming more diverse both in terms of the people who make up our borough and the new industries and economic development initiatives helping us grow. We are continuing to attract visitors to explore our vibrant neighborhoods – and this is good news.

“While we still have many challenges to overcome, such as issues of affordable housing, homelessness and overcrowding in our public schools, the efforts of our Borough President on these issues are laudable, as he has focused efforts on improving housing stock, job creation and anti-poverty measures.

“As the son of Dominican immigrants, I am proud of the Borough President’s continued commitment to protect the immigrants of the Bronx, who are an integral part of our community. The resilience of immigrants leads to the resiliency of the Bronx itself, and it is important now more than ever to look after one another in the face of an administration in Washington that is hostile to the immigrant communities that make our country strong.

“I look forward to continuing to work with President Ruben Diaz Jr. on all of these important issues and I applaud him on his efforts to improve the borough for all.”
