Oswego County Offers No Shortage of Fun This Summer as Fair and Farmer’s Market Set to Delight
Legislative Column from Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay
The Oswego-Fulton Farmer’s Market, hosted by our great friends at the Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce, is already up and running. This year, the Oswego Market will take place on Thursdays between 4:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. and runs through October. For residents or visitors looking for some of the freshest, tastiest produce in the state, consider checking the market out on West First Street between Bridge and Oneida Streets. The Fulton Market will take place on Saturdays between 8 a.m. and noon and runs through October in the Canalview Parking Lot. Also, keep an eye out for live entertainment peppered throughout the market’s summer and fall run as there are a number of great performers set to keep the mood light and fun. For a complete list of all the local area farmers’ markets, search the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets website.
Later in the month, be sure to check out the Oswego County Fair, which this year has adopted a “Back To The Basics” theme. The fair will be held at the Oswego County Fairgrounds, 291 Ellisburg St, Sandy Creek, NY 13145, and run from Friday, June 30 to Sunday, July 2. As they say, “The heart of the fair is family” and I expect nothing less this year. There will be entertainment and education for fairgoers of all kinds, and I am certain it will be a phenomenal time for everyone who makes it out to the grounds.
The fair will feature animal shows, an under-the-lights horse show, truck and tractor pulls, a corn hole tournament, a talent show and many other great events. As usual, there will also be dancing, music, food and libations. This fair offers a ton of great family activities, and as advertised, I expect to see a lot of hometown flavor as we go “back to basics” for 2023.
In addition to the fair and the farmer’s market, Oswego County, and much of the Central New York region, is always a great place to visit during the spring and summer months. We have some of the best parks, recreational spaces and natural resources in New York. I hope each of you has a chance to see what we have to offer and take some time here in the coming months. I look forward to seeing you out and about in beautiful Oswego County!
