Autumn in New York Offers Something for Everyone
Weekly Column from Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay
Upstate New York offers both residents and visitors some of the most spectacular natural resources and destinations in the state and the nation. During the crisp fall weather, many of these locations provide magnificent opportunities for apple picking, picnicking and many other great family-friendly activities.
This year, there is no shortage of activities to bring us all closer together to our families and our communities. In Oswego County, I am excited to see what the third annual Fulton Fall Festival has in store. Coming up next month on Saturday, Oct. 7, the festival will offer live music, vendors, pony rides, local fare and more. Each year, this festival seems to bring even more to the table, and I am looking forward to what the 2023 version will deliver for our community.
Also, for those in Cayuga County, that same day will feature Seymour Library’s own Fall Festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There, patrons will enjoy crafting, face painting, literary-themed pumpkin decorating, snacks, a fall-themed story time and more. Additionally, a tour of both the Seward House Museum and Fort Hill Cemetery will be offered adding to a day of tremendous educational value.
Jefferson County families can look forward to the Fall Family Fun Day taking place Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Redwood Hill Preserve. Nature presentations, crafts, food and “lots of flannel plaid” will delight attendees as fall officially kicks off at the end of the month. The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the preserve located at 44010 Stine Rd. in Redwood.
These are only a handful of the many great events taking place in Central New York and beyond. Be sure to keep an eye out for more information from local officials, area businesses and community organizations. Also, New York’s fall foliage guide, which can be accessed here, is a great resource for those who want to keep tabs on when each region’s foliage will peak.
There are many reasons to love the fall: the weather, the football and even the start of a new school year teeming with opportunities. For me, I look forward to spending time with my family in the communities I love. Central New York has lots to offer this time of year, and I greatly look forward to seeing all of you out there enjoying the cool breezes only beautiful upstate New York can deliver.
