Harborfest Has Become a Summertime Staple in Upstate New York
Column from Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay
It’s an exciting time of year in Upstate New York. During the summer months, there are tons of fun family-friendly events happening around our communities, and the Oswego Harborfest is one of my favorite local activities. Not only will there be unique craft vendors, delicious food and eclectic musical performances, but Harborfest has one of the best fireworks shows you will ever see. Simply put, there is something for everyone at this four-day event coming up in just a few days.
Harborfest 2024 is scheduled to run from Thursday, July 25 to Sunday, July 28. This event has taken place annually since 1988 and has grown from a relatively small event into a major regional attraction bringing in more than 75,000 guests each year. And one of the best things about this incredible festival is that it is free of charge!
This year, festival patrons can expect more than 30 musical acts to enjoy. Some of the incredible acts include Steve Grills and the Roadmasters, Billy Price and The American Rogues. Additionally, younger visitors are invited to march in the Children’s Parade set to kick off on Friday, July 26. The parade will start at West Park/Franklin Square at 10:30 a.m. and land at Breitbeck Park where fan-favorite Peppa Pig will perform at the park’s Main Stage. Those hoping to participate in the parade should plan to meet at 10 a.m. at West Park/Franklin Square.
For those looking for some old-fashioned fun and games, be sure to visit the Midway Carnival on Lake Street in front of the Coast Guard Station. For hours of operation, pricing (the carnival does require ticket purchases) and other important information, check out this helpful link: https://www.oswegoharborfest.com/midway/.
And, of course, on Saturday, July 27, be sure to catch the incredible fireworks display beginning at 9:30 p.m. The show will be visible from Fort Ontario to Breitbeck Park, and I am extremely excited to see what’s in store for the 2024 version of this spectacular show.
One of Upstate New York’s great assets is its abundance of exciting, creative and family-oriented events, and Harborfest has truly become a staple of our summertime recreational offerings. I hope to see you all there, and I have no doubt 2024 will deliver another incredible experience for attendees of all ages.
