Assemblyman Will Barclay (R,C,I—Pulaski) said today he is glad that at least one house in the State Legislature has enough sense to institute a property tax cap. With the Governor’s bill on today’s Senate agenda, the house has made property tax relief a priority.

“The State Assembly should follow the State Senate Majority’s example and pass a property tax cap. Property owners in New York pay among the highest taxes in the nation. Our leaders in Albany cannot saddle property owners with the high cost of government any longer.

“Lowering property taxes is easily the number one priority constituents have. The State Assembly needs to listen to the taxpayers who have had enough. We also should reduce unfunded mandates. Reducing unfunded state mandates (laws which the state passes that place the cost on municipalities) would go far to lower the cost of education, Medicaid and transportation, which would, in turn, lower property taxes as well.”
