Governor’s Budget Cuts Spending, Holds Line on Taxes Again
Assemblyman Will Barclay (R,C,I—Pulaski) released the following statement today after hearing Gov. Cuomo’s budget address:
“My first impression is this budget has the taxpayers in mind. I liked hearing the Governor’s plans on education reform, pension reform and Medicaid reform. I also liked hearing how spending would be kept in line with last year, and that there are no new taxes proposed in his executive budget.
“My colleagues and I have talked for years about needing state agency consolidation and making things more consistent within the state. This is what our taxpayers have demanded. I was glad to hear plans for what sounds like real reform. Creating a more efficient and functional government is necessary if we are to work within our means.
“The Governor’s budget will serve as a solid foundation going forward in budget negotiations with the State Legislature. I’m pleased with what was mentioned today, and look forward to viewing the specifics more closely this week.”
