Barclay: Keeping Fitz Operational Great News for Workers, Families and Economy
Assemblyman Will Barclay (R,C,I—Pulaski) made the following statement today after the Entergy announced that Exelon will buy FitzPatrick and the plant will remain operational.
“I am thrilled to learn that FitzPatrick will remain operational. Since Entergy announced its planned closure of the plant last fall, elected officials, the Upstate Energy Jobs Coalition and the Oswego County community as a whole have worked to find solutions to prevent the closure. I am proud of what has been accomplished and especially pleased that New York’s energy future will include nuclear power. I am grateful these jobs, this plant, and the FitzPatrick community will remain in Oswego County.
“Had it not been for the Clean Energy Standard which was adopted by the Public Service Commission last week, we wouldn’t be celebrating this news today. I applaud the Governor and the PSC for working to recognize nuclear through the new standard. The new standard will help ensure New York maintains the plants which are a significant source of carbon free electricity generation for the entire state.”
