Barclay Pushes for Additional CHIPs Funding

Assemblyman Will Barclay (R,C,I—Pulaski) stands with local highway workers in an effort to increase funding for the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program in the state budget. Barclay said this long-standing, successful program directly benefits localities by helping to fund local road repair.
Assemblyman Will Barclay (R,C,I,Ref-Pulaski) today called for a $150 million increase in state aid for the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS) in the state budget. The Governor’s proposed budget calls for $438.1 million for CHIPs but Barclay said because this successful program plays such a key role in the basic maintenance of local roads and highways for municipalities across the state, the state should increase this funding.
“This successful program helps localities address problems caused by normal wear and tear and be able to keep up with scheduled street repairs and repaving. Properly funding the CHIPs program will ensure that residents have safer roads and highways,” said Barclay.
