Barclay: State of Emergency for Lake Shore Property Owners the Right Response
Assemblyman Will Barclay (R,C,I,Ref-Pulaski) today applauded the governor for declaring a state of emergency for communities affected by flooding along the Lake Ontario shore.
"I am pleased the Governor declared a state of emergency for property owners along the shore of Lake Ontario. Many have called my office to report flooding, erosion, property damage and concerns that more water will bring more damage. This declaration will help expedite the state's permitting process for shoreline owners so they can more readily work to protect their property without unnecessary delay. Also, sandbags are being made available so owners can work to prevent damage and losses due to the high water. Additionally, I am pleased to learn that the Governor is appealing to the International Joint Commission to lower the water levels by releasing more water from the lake. Anyone with questions or in need of resources may call the newly-created Lake Ontario Flood Assistance Hotline at 866-244-3839."
