Barclay Announces Summer Reading Program

Two parties planned in fall to honor readers who participate

Assemblyman Will Barclay (R,C,I-Pulaski) is pleased to once again sponsor the Assembly Summer Reading Challenge.

Students who read at least 15 minutes per day for 40 days this summer will receive a certificate from Assemblyman Barclay and be invited to a Summer Reading Challenge party. Kids can track their progress on a calendar provided on the reading challenge form. This year’s theme is “Build a Better World.”

“Leisure reading can stop some of that summer brain drain. It can also lead students to discover new interests and inspire them to learn about the arts, science, or history, to help improve the world around us.” said Barclay. “I always look forward to meeting the children and recognizing them for their hard work and dedication at the Summer Reading Challenge party.”

This year the Assemblyman will offer two summer reading challenge parties — one for children up to age 11 and another for kids 12 and up.

Local schools distributed forms which feature a calendar to keep track of reading times and dates. If your family did not receive a form through the schools and would like one, please email a request to barclaw@nyassembly.gov and include a mailing address. This challenge can be completed in tandem with other local summer reading challenges. After the challenge is completed, families can mail or drop off their completed forms to Assemblyman Barclay, 200 North Second St., Fulton, NY 13069.
