Barclay Announces State Aid for Library Construction
Assemblyman Will Barclay (R,C,I,Ref-Pulaski) announced today that the Baldwinsville, Fulton and Mexico public libraries have been awarded funding as part of the $19 million in capital funds for public library construction provided in the 2017 State Budget.
Baldwinsville Public Library, located at 33 East Genesee St. in Baldwinsville, has been awarded $7,459 to convert its lighting fixtures to LEDs. Fulton Public Library, located at 160 South First St. in Fulton, has been awarded $7,990 to restore two chimneys and other masonry features. Lastly, Mexico Public Library, located at 3269 Main St. in Mexico, has received a $44,907 award to renovate its roof and to fund its parapet restoration project.
"I am thrilled these grant awards will assist our local libraries,” said Barclay. “Libraries are an amazing tool for our community and these awards will improve them and enhance our visiting and learning experience. From young readers to job seekers, our libraries are a community hub that provides a place for people of all ages to connect share and access information and enhance the quality of life for area residents.”
Project activities and expenditures eligible for grants from the $19 million State Aid for Library Construction Program include financing construction of new library buildings, construction of additions to existing buildings, and the renovation and/or rehabilitation of existing space, including roof replacement, purchase and installation of alternative energy resources and new HVAC systems, windows, doors and lighting systems, electrical upgrades and construction of new or replacement of old walkways and parking lots, among other things. New furniture, shelving and equipment, including computer equipment, can be purchased for new or newly-reconfigured or renovated space. Renovations designed to provide accessibility for patrons with disabilities is a high priority.
