Barclay Thanks Fire Fighter Sean O’Gorman for Brave Act
O’Gorman Honored with Assembly Resolution
Assemblyman Will Barclay (R,C,I,Ref-Pulaski) recently presented Oswego Fire Fighter Sean O’Gorman with an Assembly Resolution in recognition of his quick thinking and heroic actions.
While on vacation with his family in North Carolina’s Emerald Isle, O’Gorman spotted two girls who were struggling in the water. Sean went over to speak to the parents, offered to help, learned that the mother had called 911, and that their older daughter had gone out to help but she too had become stuck in the rip current. Meanwhile, the father was attempting to swim out on a surfboard but turned back and asked Sean if he would go out instead. Sean jumped in the water, reached the girls, had them grab his feet, and swam with them safely to shore. The older sister was able to swim on her own to safety.
Thanks to a recent water rescue course Sean completed through the Oswego Fire Department and his years of experience, O’Gorman was able to successfully rescue the girls from the dangerous riptide.
“In this selfless and heroic act, Sean O’Gorman was able to save lives. His ability to act in the face of danger for the safety and wellbeing of others is clear,” said Barclay. “Thank you for all you do for others and for the entire Oswego community. This department is better because of your dedicated service and concern for others,” Barclay added.
Barclay also thanked Fire Chief Randy Griffin for his leadership in ensuring that O’Gorman and others in the department are trained in water rescue. O’Gorman’s parents, Pat and Judy O’Gorman, were also at the fire station for the short presentation.
