Barclay Supports Legislation Protecting New York Drivers from New License Plate Fee

Assemblyman Will Barclay (R,C,I, Ref-Pulaski) made the following statement in response to newly-introduced legislation designed to protect New York drivers from Gov. Cuomo’s mandated $25 fee on new license plates (S.6663). This bill would prohibit the state Department of Motor Vehicles from requiring the new fee. Barclay is a co-sponsor of the legislation.

“The legislation proposed today serves as a shield to protect drivers from superfluous new fees. Under the governor’s plan, all license plates older than 10 years old must be replaced beginning next year. Our state already charges too much for vehicle registration, license renewals, and registration renewals, and the governor’s initiative would add an additional $25 license plate charge. I hope the Legislature can work together to pass this bill before taxpayers are hit with the new tax.”
