Assemblyman William Colton (D – Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, and Dyker Heights) is saddened by yesterday's horrific attack on the "N" train during yesterday’s morning commute.

"At approximately 8:25 am, a suspect wearing a gas mask opened a canister of gas and then began shooting, while the "N" train was approaching the 36th Street station in Sunset Park. Twenty-eight innocent people were on their way to work and got injured during this chaotic attack in the morning rush hour. I commend our police officers and MTA workers for their swift response and for getting the situation under control. Unfortunately, the suspect remains on the loose," Colton stated.

"I am glad that in this fiscal year's 2022-2023 budget we voted on and were able to make changes to the bail reform bill that passed the Assembly in 2019 which I at that time voted against. Now judges will be able to keep dangerous individuals in jail. Criminals who commit horrific attacks like this on innocent citizens must be taken off the streets and remain in jail for the safety of all New Yorkers," Colton continued.

"I am praying for the victims and their families of yesterday's horrific attack. New Yorkers must get together and speak up. We need to protect our city and show criminals that there's no place for any violent crimes in our city. We must support our men and women in blue so they can do their job to remove dangerous offenders off the streets of NYC. Our New York City must be safe for everyone. The violence must stop so our great city can be a safe place to live," Colton added.
