BROOKLYN, NY - Community activists in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn’s Little Odessa neighborhood, will be holding a massive rally in support the people of Ukraine.

“Ukrainian cities are being bombed. The world is watching this genocide. All of Europe is at risk”, said community activist Angela Kravtchenko.

"Let us pray for the families in Ukraine who are being subjected to a war waged by a tyrant. Putin has blatantly invaded Ukraine, without any provocation, subjecting millions of people to harm, with his brutal thrust for power. His actions must not only be condemned by the world, but a way must be found to stop him before he proceeds to attacking all of the Baltic states, one by one, triggering World War III," Assemblyman William Colton said.

“I can no longer be silent”, said community activist Yelena Makhnin. “Hundreds of people are dying in Ukraine every day. These are the people we went to school with, these are our family members”.

“Let us pray for the safety of Ukraine” said community activist Raina Chernina, Executive Director of the Be Proud Foundation.

Background: Brighton Beach has one of the largest populations of Ukrainians outside of Europe. Many immigrated to the community in the mid-1970’s. The area was named Little Odessa after the port city and resort town on the Black Sea. Many residents have family members who still reside in Ukraine.
