Assemblyman Colton Honors Centenarian
Assemblyman William Colton (D—Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Dyker Heights) was on hand to mark the 100th birthday of one local resident, Boris Sirota, who was born in Ukraine and fought valiantly for the allies in World War II.
The celebration took place at the Bainbridge Adult Day Care Center, 3093 Ocean Avenue, on November 18, a few days after Sirota’s 100th birthday on November 9.
“I was delighted to join in celebrating this significant birthday with my constituent, Boris Sirota,” said Assemblyman Colton. “He has had a rich, full life, with many significant achievements, and deserves all the accolades he is receiving as he marks his 100th birthday. I am honored to have been a part of this important occasion.”
Among his achievements, Sirota participated in the liberation of Warsaw and the assault on and capture of Berlin by allied forces. He was seriously wounded during his military service, and spent over six months in the hospital before returning to the military for further duty.
After the war, Sirota completed his education and taught mathematics in his native Ukraine. He emigrated to the United States in 1992. He has two sons, six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
