Assemblyman Colton Asks for Volunteers for Upcoming Local Cleanup
It’s time to get the brooms and shovels out again. Assemblyman William Colton (D—Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Dyker Heights) will be holding a community cleanup on Saturday, November 23, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., in conjunction with the Chinese American Social Services Center (CASS), and he’s urging area residents to volunteer to help spruce up the neighborhood.
“Getting involved in neighborhood beautification is one of the most rewarding things that those who live and work in the community can do,” said Assemblyman Colton. “A few hours of sweeping and bagging leaves and trash can have such a tremendous impact, both aesthetically and practically – it helps businesses thrive, residents’ quality of life is enhanced, and corner catchbasins are less likely to back up when it rains. When we do cleanups, there’s so much camaraderie, and we all realize afresh how important it is to participate in maintaining the kind of neighborhood we want to see.”
The coming cleanup is planned to focus on 86th Street, from 16th to 25th Avenues, and the more people who get involved, the more extensive the cleanup can be.
