Assemblyman Colton, Councilmember Zhuang Call for Annual Women of Distinction Nominations

March is Women’s History Month and, to mark the yearly celebration, Assemblyman William Colton (D—Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Dyker Heights) and City Councilmember Susan Zhuang (D-Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, Gravesend, Dyker Heights, Boro Park and Sunset Park) are currently planning their annual Women of Distinction event which honors local women who dedicate themselves to making a difference in the community.

For this reason, the two officials are asking local leaders, residents and businesspeople to nominate women who they believe deserve the recognition. As always, the women who receive the award will represent the diversity of the area, and represent a wide range of achievements. Nominees can have made their mark in business, education, humanitarian work, military service, community/civic affairs, health care, government or volunteerism.

“It’s really important to salute those strong and talented women who work to make our wonderful neighborhood an even better place to live, work and raise a family,” said Assemblyman Colton. “These extraordinary women make a positive difference every day, and they are also strong role models for our children, who learn from them the importance of taking a stand and contributing to the community – a lesson that will stand them, and everyone who lives here, in good stead for years to come.”

"I am proud to celebrate Women's History Month by partnering with Assemblyman Colton and honoring Women of Distinction," said Councilmember Zhuang. "As a member of the Women's Caucus of the City Council, I know there are lot of women out there who deserve this honor. That is why I encourage everyone to submit their nomination today! I look forward to celebrating all the honorees in March."

To nominate a woman for this year’s honors, email coltonw@nyassembly.gov or call 718-236-1598. All nominations should be submitted by March 14. The celebration will be Sunday, March 23, from 2 to 4 p.m., at FIAO’s Il Centro, 8711 18th Avenue, Brooklyn NY 11214.
