Assemblyman William Colton (D – Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, and Dyker Heights) with the 47^th Assembly District Leader Nancy Tong attended Community Unity Rally which was organized by Council Member Chaim Deutsch and Council Member Margaret Chin. Council Members Mark Treyger, Peter Koo, Assembly Member Helen Weinstein, Senator Andrew Gounardes and City Comptroller Scott Stringer’s representative Ari Kagan also joined a rally against hate crime, the horrible crime that took place January 15^th, 2019 at Seaport Buffet in Brooklyn. It was a senseless crime took three innocent lives.

“I call on the District Attorney to prosecute Arthur Martunovich who was charged with committing this unspeakable crime to the fullest extent of the law. If found guilty, he needs to be put away, so no other families would suffer a loss of their loved ones from the hands of such individuals. I believe that families of all three victims should be informed of what is going on with the case,” Colton stated.      

“My heart goes out to the families whose member’s lives were taken in such a pointless and brutal crime. HATE CRIME against any ethnicity is a despicable act and will not be tolerated. Anyone who commits any crime must receive a punishment to the fullest extent that the law permits. We can never ignore acts of hate because such an attack on any group in our community is an attack on us all. I’ve been voicing my views against any hate crimes for a very long time. My strength always has been to bring people together. I will continue to work to bring us together and to ensure that attacks like this will not divide us, but will make us all  the more strong-minded, we must work together for better and safer neighborhoods for all of our families” Colton said.
