Assemblyman Colton Demands Legislation Raising the Penalties on Hit-And-Run Drivers Must Pass
I am very disturbed by the news that another hit-and-run happened on Argyle Road in Brooklyn that left a 10-year-old child injured, said Assemblyman Colton (D Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, Dyker Heights)
Colton states the Senate passed a bill which would increase the penalties for hit-and-run drivers.
I introduced same bill in the Assembly A-6164 in February 2017, but it has remained stalled in the Assembly Transportation Committee. Meanwhile the number of hit-and-runs has spiked.
Colton continued: The current law provides a higher penalty for hit-and-run drivers who are drunk or driving without a license, if they stop at the scene then if they decide to leave the scene and are caught fleeing the scene. To protect the lives of children we must remedy this loophole by passing this legislation.
