Assemblyman Colton is Furious with Mayor de Blasio's Proposal in Education Cuts Which is Close to $827 Million
Assemblyman William Colton (D Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, and Dyker Heights) is saying that our children and our schools already facing a horrendous crisis and we cannot let de Blasio's proposal be approved. To propose cuts in education is not the answer. Our children and their families are struggling with an invisible enemy that can destroy their wellbeing. Now must they face an enemy which will damage the minds of our children?
"Close to $800 million in cuts to the classrooms and the teaching programs are unthinkable. They are also stoppable where the chancellor hires six-figure paid cronies to staff task forces to study items that can never become a reality. This must stop NOW. All such monies must be redirected to preventing unthinkable cuts to our childrens education. The cronies must be let go. The multiple layers of consultants must be ended," Colton stated.
"The costly idealist ideas promoting political ideologies must end. All precious school monies must be diverted to learning in the classrooms and to the teachers and the school staff who directly promote this learning. According to the president of the union Mark Cannizzaro, who represents school administration mentioned that schools are already received approximately $700 million less than they are owed under the city's own formula, and now De Blasio has the nerve to propose more cuts, that is unacceptable and we cannot let him do that. We must accept nothing less than full funding of education monies to our schools Colton added.
