Assemblyman Colton Says That Under Mayor de Blasio's Administration New York City Has Become a Lost City

Assemblyman William Colton (D – Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, and Dyker Heights) says that under Mayor de Blasio’s administration New York City has become a lost city.

“My office received a complaint that Seth Low Park in Brooklyn is in horrible condition. The playground is filthy, and an enormous amount of garbage is all over the park. I was also told that the park is infested with vermin, and that is a health hazard for everyone, especially children. I went there myself to see and took pictures. What I saw was disgusting. I have never seen the park as dirty as it is. It’s a disgrace. Unfortunately, Seth Low Park is not the only one that is mismanaged. There are several others. My understanding is that de Blasio was elected as mayor to keep our city safe and clean, but instead, our great New York City has been neglected under his administration.,” Colton stated.

“The mayor’s adventure began when he decided to eliminate SHSAT testing. Then during the COVID-19 crisis he defunded NYPD. He threatens to lay off 22,000 city workers on October 1, 2020. He reduced the budget for litter basket service citywide by 63% compared to last year. His carelessness has forced the DOS Commissioner to resign. Amid the fact that number of schools were tested positive for COVID-19, de Blasio’s administration is still pushing for NYC schools to reopen on September 21, 2020, even though he doesn’t have a detailed and safe plan to do that. Sadly, Governor Cuomo had to take the initiative to allow indoor dining to resume at 25% capacity on September 30th, because our Mayor planned to allow indoor dining only in the summer of 2021,” Colton continued.

“Do we need to ask Mayor de Blasio if he has any other plans for crippling NYC before his term is over, or do we have to ask Governor Cuomo to intervene and take over the New York City management?” Colton wonders.
