"For 40 years communities across the nation have set aside the month of May to celebrate the great contributions of Asian Americans to the economy, arts, science, government and dozens of other fields. Asian Americans and Pacific islanders (AAPI) are one of the fastest growing communities in New York and it is critical that we pause to recognize the role that we play in shaping our state. It is also worth recognizing the struggle the AAPI communities continue to face to this day," said Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou on the Assembly floor during legislative session recognizing May 2018,  as Asian Pacific American Heritage Month  in the State of New York.
