Working hard for you

Dear Neighbor,

You’ve worked hard for what you’ve got and earned the right to enjoy it. You shouldn’t be overburdened by costly property taxes or skyrocketing prescription drug prices.

As your Assemblyman, I’m working hard to tackle these problems and find solutions to them so you can enjoy the high quality of life you deserve. We made great progress in Albany this year, and I will continue to address important issues to make Suffolk County a great – and affordable – place to live.

Sincerely,

Helpful information from Assemblyman Philip Ramos

EPIC — prescription coverage for seniors

EPIC is designed to lower prescription drug costs for seniors with fixed incomes.

  • EPIC works hand-in-hand with Medicare Part D – EPIC enrollees who are eligible for Medicare Part D must enroll in both programs.

  • You are eligible for EPIC if you are a New York State resident age 65 or older with an income of $35,000 or less if single, or $50,000 or less if married.

  • Almost all prescription medicines, including insulin and insulin syringes, are covered under EPIC.

  • Show your EPIC card at the pharmacy, and the prescription price will be adjusted to the EPIC rates.

  • For EPIC eligibility information, or to enroll in the program, call the Senior Hotline at 1-800-342-9871 or the EPIC Hotline at 1-800-332-3742.

Middle-Class STAR Rebate

Philip Ramos fought for a state budget that included additional property tax relief. If you qualify for Enhanced STAR, your rebate will be mailed to you automatically. All other homeowners who qualify for STAR will need to fill out a rebate application by Nov. 30, 2007, to receive their check. Recently the Assembly passed legislation, that if signed into law, will extend the application deadline to Dec. 31, 2007. For more information, go to www.nystax.org or call 1-877-6-STAR-NY.

Flu Shots

Flu vaccinations for adults are available annually during flu season. Clinics are located at a variety of sites in the community. Adults who have Medicare or Medicaid with no HMO will receive free vaccinations with their identification card. For more information, contact the Suffolk County Health Department at 853-3000.
