Assemblyman Ramos:
Life should be less taxing

More HEAP funding to help pay big heating bills

photo To make sure families stay warm this winter, the state increased funding to the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), which provides support for hardworking families, the elderly and the disabled who need a helping hand with home fuel bills.
  • The maximum household benefit has been increased to $540.

  • Both renters and homeowners are eligible for assistance.

  • Vendors who accept HEAP must provide discounts on price protection to customers.

  • 35,000 Long Island households were helped through the program last year.

For questions about HEAP or to apply, call the Suffolk County HEAP Office at 853-8825.
