LIPA has been unaccountable to the people of Long Island for far too long. Long Island needs to take back its power company. The twelve reforms that I am proposing would do just that.
Highlights of Assemblyman
McDonough’s plan include:
- Elect LIPA Board of Trustees so the board is accountable to only the ratepayers;
- Minimum 60 day public comment period on any rate hike so that your voice is heard;
- Require an Economic Impact Statement for any rate hike so we know how it will affect our wallets;
- Permit new municipal utilities to compete with LIPA so we get the best rate;
- Require all LIPA contracts to be posted on the LIPA website to increase transparency; and
- Require industry experience for all new LIPA Presidents and CEOs so we know the most qualified individuals are running LIPA.
