Dear Neighbor,
Now, and in the coming months, you will notice work being done around Morningside Park and on nearby streets. This work — the installation of unique light poles — is part of the Morningside Area Distinctive Street Lighting Project for which I secured nearly $1 million in state funding. The project will improve public safety and enhance the historic character of this Olmsted and Vaux-designed landscape. Poles around the periphery of the park will feature sidearms to better light sidewalks for pedestrian use.
Once completed, more than 150 of these historic street lights will line the entire perimeter of the park, as well as Amsterdam Avenue from 125th to 110th Street and 110th Street from Amsterdam to Manhattan Avenue.
The lighting project is one very important investment to improve the safety, quality of life, and historic character of a vibrant community that has historically seen fewer public infrastructure improvements than it deserves.

En el presente, y en los meses que se aproximan, notarán el trabajo que se ha iniciado en los alrededores de Morningside Park y calles adyacentes. Este trabajo —la instalación de históricos postes de alumbrado— es parte del Proyecto de Alumbrado Distintivo en el área de Morningside para el cual aseguré casi 1 millón de dólares en fondos estatales. El proyecto mejorará la seguridad pública y realzará el carácter histórico de la arquitectura paisajista diseñada por Olmsted y Vaux.
