Assembly Member O’Donnell’s 8th Annual
Community Reading Challenge is Underway!
Co-sponsored with the New York Public Library

Assembly Member O'Donnell's reading program, co-sponsored with the New York Public Library, is now underway and will continue through May 6th. Last year, hundreds of pre-K through 8th graders participated in this popular community event.

This year's challenge is staying green! Every suggested book has a pro-environment or nature theme. The materials have been streamlined to reduce printed materials and waste. All of the content is available at the bottom of this page.

As always, the reading lists include bilingual and Spanish titles for Spanish-speaking readers.

Printed materials are now available at the Bloomingdale, George Bruce and Morningside Heights library branches as well as Assembly Member O'Donnell's Community Office.

The materials include reading lists and book review forms. All submitted book reviews and drawings will be posted on Assembly Member O'Donnell's web site, and all readers will receive a certificate of acknowledgement. The challenge culminates in book festivals with healthy snacks and live entertainment at each of the three host libraries.

"This is one of the most important community events that I sponsor. Reading plays a critical role in a child's education and development," said Assembly Member O'Donnell. "I hope families and caregivers will participate in the challenge and encourage a lifelong love of reading."
