As the former executive director of My Sisters' Place - an agency that provides comprehensive services for victims of domestic violence - Assemblywoman Amy Paulin has seen first-hand the trauma caused by abuse. In the Assembly, she continues working to safeguard our families, including authoring legislation:

• Increasing the penalty for those who traumatize our children by exposing themselves in public or through other acts of public lewdness (Ch. 568 of 2004)

• Protecting domestic violence victims by providing for revocation or ineligibility of a firearms license for violation of orders of protection (A.3337, passed Assembly)

• Making it a crime to obstruct or prevent a person from making a 911 or other telephone call for emergency assistance (A.11680, passed Assembly)

• Ensuring the crime victims board cannot deny aid based on a pre-existing disability or condition to victims who endure hardship as a result of their unintentional involvement with a crime (A.9353, passed Assembly)

Firearms are used to kill over 30,000 individuals in the United States each year, including more than 1,200 New Yorkers. As a mother, Amy Paulin knows how vital it is to keep guns out of the wrong hands and off our streets. That's why she sponsored legislation:

• Expanding the crime gun clearinghouse and the ballistic identification databank to assist in the investigation of gun trafficking and related crimes (A.8542, passed Assembly)

• Making it more difficult for criminals to obtain firearms, rifles and shotguns from gun dealers and increasing the criminal penalties for those who illegally possess or sell multiple firearms (A.8456, passed Assembly)
