Working to stop the
proposed NYRI project

“Kent Sick, an author of a 1999 paper on the impact of power lines on real estate prices, said his research showed there was a clear reduction in property values. Reductions have ranged from just a few percentage points to as much as 53 percent, Sick found.”

-Press & Sun Bulletin - Sunday, May 21, 2006

“By the time it is completed in 2011, the $1 billion line would be carried by towering poles erected about every 700 feet for approximately 200 miles from suburban Utica to a site near the Hudson River north of West Point.”

-Press & Sun Bulletin - Sunday, May 21, 2006

“If the New York Regional Interconnect line is built and property values go down, it could affect municipalities and schools, which depend on property-based taxes. Officials said that could lead to decreases in services or property tax increases to offset the losses.”

Working to STOP the NYRI Project

wants to stop the proposed NYRI project...

Here’s Why...
  • The proposed NYRI project fails to solve the bottleneck problem that exists in getting power into New York City and its suburbs;

  • Studies have shown that property values will drop on and around the path of towering power lines, creating a shortage of tax funds and leading to a loss of services or a rise in taxes;

  • Those along the path of the proposed line will see no direct benefit from the electricity running along towering poles that create an eyesore;

  • Residents throughout the path of the proposed project are outraged and refuse to be the victims of another New York City project such as Marcy South;

  • The proposed path runs near schools and playing fields. While there is no direct evidence high-power electromagnetic fields cause cancer, there is no evidence to dismiss that the power lines NYRI wants to use do not;

  • As your state representative, Assemblyman Finch vows to protect your interests in this matter by working to stop the proposed NYRI project from negatively impacting Central New York.

Here’s Why...

  • Assemblyman Finch is working with state representatives and local officials to develop and implement a unified strategy against the NYRI power project;

  • Assemblyman Finch is in contact with federal officials to voice the opinions of the residents of Central New York;

  • Assemblyman Finch is securing the involvement of other state agencies, such as the DEC, to review the line from an environmental standpoint;

  • Assemblyman Finch is doing what is in the best interest for Central New York, and that means working tirelessly to stop the NYRI project.
