Fighting for schools isn’t just his passion. . .

. . .it’s Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli’s promise.
“I came to Albany to fight for Syracuse schools and secured more money,
more resources for our children, and more accountability for our tax dollars.”
Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli

Your tax dollars, and your government,
at work for all our kids

Assemblyman Magnarelli comes from a family of teachers and knows that education is vital for the continued development of Syracuse. In the past year, he worked to improve Syracuse schools by securing funds to upgrade facilities and enhance education. Last year Assemblyman Magnarelli worked to:

  • Pass legislation, for which he was the prime sponsor in the Assembly, to provide an initial amount of over $170 million for Phase One of the Joint Construction School Renovation Plan;

  • Provide an increase of $10.4 million over the previous year’s state funding allocation for Syracuse schools;

  • Secure $2.4 million to upgrade athletic facilities at Sunnycrest Park/Henninger High School Sports Complex, including an artifical turf field, six tennis courts, a basketball court, a renovated softball field with new bleachers, as well as a new entrance, ticket stand and fencing around the complex, to be completed in spring of 2006;

  • Provide $125,000 for the repair of the facilities at Sunnycrest Ice Rink;

  • Obtain $278,220 for construction of a playground and soccer field at Huntington Elementary School;

  • Secure funds to renovate the pee-wee soccer field at Salem-Hyde Elementary School; and

  • Pass legislation to improve school district money-management training for school board members (Ch. 263 of 2005).

“I will continue working hard in the next year to make sure Syracuse’s children get the education and opportunities they deserve.”
