Protecting the quality of health care in New York

Magnarelli fought to reject the executive proposal to make EPIC drugs subject to prior authorization when there is a Medicare Part D denial, and instead helped shape an alternative program that places the burden on EPIC – not the beneficiary – to appeal Medicare Part D denials.

Fighting to keep seniors safe

Magnarelli helped pass a new law to protect the elderly from criminals. The law increases the penalty from a class A misdemeanor to a class D felony if a person 65 years or older is assaulted by someone more than 10 years younger. This new law will help curb predatory attacks by those who target seniors (Ch. 68 of 2008).

EPIC – prescription coverage for seniors

EPIC is designed to lower prescription drug costs for seniors with fixed incomes.

• You are eligible for EPIC if you are a New York State resident age 65 or older with an income of $35,000 or less if single, or $50,000 or less if married.
