Preserving
Upstate New York’s Traditions

NYS Seal

NEW YORK STATE ASSEMBLY

Dear Friend:

As a lifelong resident of upstate New York, I am committed to representing the traditions that have kept the region strong for decades. I am committed to ensuring farmers throughout New York have the opportunities they need to grow and prosper. I am also committed to preserving outdoor recreational activities for generations to come.

As an avid sportsman, I vow to fight for the rights of those who wish to enjoy the expansive outdoor recreational opportunities New York has to offer. My colleagues and I continue to propose new ideas to create more accessible land for these activities so we may all safely enjoy the beauty New York has to offer.

My colleagues and I also continue to create proposals to ensure our farmers have the opportunities they need to maintain their farms and expand their livelihood. June is Dairy Month in New York state, and every year my colleagues and I host "Dairy Day" in Albany to show the healthy benefits of dairy products and highlight their great taste. In my opinion, farmers are the hardest-working individuals in the country. Cows and crops do not take Sundays and holidays off, and the farmers that care for them should not be left behind. I will continue to fight to make sure they are not!

Sincerely, signature Brian Kolb

Preserving and Expanding Agriculture:
  • I continue to seek to maintain New York’s farms through recruitment and retention efforts that encourage alternative technologies and assist farmers through low-interest loan programs.

  • Agriculture Alternative Energy Loan Program: Encourage alternative energy technologies and environmentally sound agriculture waste management with a revolving loan program to help farmers purchase equipment and construct systems that would use manure to produce electricity.

  • The New York Farmer Recruitment and Retention Act: I support creation of agricultural scholarships and loan forgiveness programs for full-time farmers and creation of incentives for young people to enter the profession. This proposal also makes it easier for retiring farmers to pass their operations on to the next generation.

Supporting Traditional Outdoor Sports
  • Traditional outdoor sports such as hunting and fishing have a significant impact on New York’s economy. Recreational anglers and hunters spend more than $2.1 billion on their favorite pastimes annually.

  • I am committed to enhancing New York’s reputation as a sportsman’s paradise by supporting increased access to lands and waterways, while encouraging youth participation in hunting and fishing.

  • I also support increasing the number of ATV trails by changing the direction of trail construction and development from public to private trail systems.
