Volunteer firefighters and emergency medical service personnel work daily to keep the citizens of New York safe, often putting duty above their own safety. For their courage we owe them our thanks and support. That’s why Assemblyman Brian Kolb has worked to provide assistance for local fire and emergency service personnel in our community and supports several legislative initiatives, including measures to:
  • Establish a plan of health insurance for volunteer firefighters and their dependents

  • Grant excused leave to civil service employees who are volunteer firefighters or ambulance workers during a state of emergency

  • Enact the Volunteer Firefighter and Ambulance Worker Protection and Incentive Act of 2007

  • Require notice to emergency personnel of exposure to HIV infected persons

  • Increase the funeral and lump sum death benefit for volunteer firefighters
