Dear Friend,

As your Assemblyman, I have put the protection of sportsmen and 2nd Amendment rights at the top of my list of priorities. For too long, downstate interests have tried to encroach upon our ability to enjoy outdoor recreation.

We must work together to protect our rights as sportsmen, doing away with unnecessary fees for hunting and fishing and increasing access to private land. Additionally, it is important that we encourage more effective wildlife management and promote New York’s ATV and snowmobile industries.

I would like to invite you to attend 2012’s Sportsmen & Outdoor Recreation Legislative Awareness Day. Hosted annually, at this event we allow outdoor enthusiasts like you to come together and stand up for your rights alongside industry leaders and activists.

I look forward to seeing you there, and together we will stand up and defend the rights and traditions that we hold so dearly to our hearts.

Sincerely,

A Friend of Sportsmen, Standing Up For Our Traditions

Assemblyman Phil Palmesano:
Friend of Sportsmen
Phil has been recognized for his advocacy by the National Rifle Association (NRA), Shooters Committee on Political Education (S.C.O.P.E.) and the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association and will continue to lead by:
  • Continuing to fight against restrictive anti-gun legislation that infringes on our Constitutional rights,

  • Leading the fight to maintain the integrity of the Conservation Fund, which is paid through sportsmen licenses and taxes and dedicated for the maintenance of fish and wildlife programs, and

  • Advocating for the creation of a youth big-game rifle hunting season, similar to our successful youth archery bill.

This Year’s Victories for Sportsmen
With your support, Phil fought to solidify a number of rights for sportsmen this year, including the following:
  1. Permanently allowing sportsmen in the counties of Chemung, Steuben and Yates to hunt deer and bear with a rifle,

  2. Passed legislation to allow youths 12 years old and over to participate in bow hunting under mentored supervision, and

  3. Voted against a micro-stamping bill and other anti-gun measures that target the Constitutional freedoms of law-abiding sportsmen and do nothing to prevent gun-related crime.
