***Event Advisory*** Thursday, August 5, 2010; Encourages community to donate blood to save a life
Assemblyman Joe Giglio (R,I,C-Gowanda) today announced that he will be hosting a blood drive with the
American Red Cross. The blood drive will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2010 from 2 p.m. -7 p.m. at the
Wellsville American Legion, located at 23 Jefferson St. Wellsville, NY.
"I would encourage those who have never donated to stop by and donate," said Giglio. "The American Red
Cross is always in need of donations, especially during the summer season. You never know when someone
who you know, work or live with may need assistance. This is a great way to give back to people in your
community and you can walk away with a great feeling, knowing that you have prevented and helped to save
someone's life."
According to the American Red Cross, donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh at least 110
pounds, and not have donated in the last two months. Although 60 percent of Americans are eligible
to give blood, only five percent donate. With fewer donations during the summer months, many hospitals
find themselves with critical shortages.
