Making a Difference in Brooklyn and Albany
Assemblywoman Helene Weinstein Gets Results
I strongly believe that one of my most important responsibilities is to listen carefully, answer questions and help solve your problems. Along with my experienced community office staff, I can assist you with a variety of important services and help to resolve community problems.
Some of Assemblywoman Weinstein’s Success Stories
Electrical Danger Averted
Mr. Y spotted a dangerous wire hanging in his neighbor’s property. He called the Assemblywoman who, after reaching out to Con Edison, secured a necessary air rights easement, as it was on private property, after which Con Ed made the repairs.
Street Plate Problem
Ms. L called the Assemblywoman after a street construction plate blocked the drain on her corner, causing massive flooding after rainfall. The Assemblywoman called several agencies and utilities, and, after attributing the steel plate to National Grid, had the company reposition it allowing water to drain properly.
Unemployment Worries
Mr. G had applied for unemployment, but months later had not heard from the agency. He called the Assemblywoman, who contacted the Department of Labor, confirming receipt of, and processed, application.
Lifeline Restored
Ms. T called the Assemblywoman, distraught, after her Verizon Lifeline services was canceled months after she had sent in the recertification, leaving her isolated. A call to Verizon recovered her application, and service was restored.
Abandoned Car Removed
Ms. W called on behalf of her neighbors who were fed up with an abandoned vehicle that had been sitting on their block for weeks. The Assemblywoman reached out to the NYPD who, after marking the car, removed the derelict vehicle within days.
Con Ed Correction
Mr. K asked the Assemblywoman to dispute a $100 fine that ConEd had imposed after alleging that his Smart Meter wasn’t installed on time. The Assemblywoman quickly reached out to the utility and provided proof that it had been installed well before the deadline, and they struck the fine from his bill.
SNAP Saved
Mr. E forgot to send his SNAP Benefits Recertification in on time and was worried they would be canceled. Assemblywoman Weinstein reached out to HRA to make sure his benefits remained active and was able to help expedite the recertification process.
Non-Drivers ID
Mr. F was having difficulty compiling the documentation required to apply for a Non-Drivers ID and called Assemblywoman Weinstein for help. A call was made to the DMV for a review of the documents he had, and she worked with Mr. F to confirm he had sufficient proof for a successful application.
Retirement Recovery

ASSEMBLYWOMAN WEINSTEIN IS HERE FOR YOU!
New York City to Take Responsibility for
Sidewalks Damaged by City Trees
After years and years of advocating on behalf of homeowners with exorbitant sidewalk violations, Assemblywoman Weinstein is happy to announce that sidewalks damaged by city trees are now the City’s responsibility.
Up until now, homeowners would be saddled with the cost of repairing sidewalks damaged by trees owned by NYC, most of which predate their ownership of the property. The Trees & Sidewalks Program will place the expense on the City, cancel liens against homeowners for damage caused by city trees and review all outstanding sidewalk violations.
The process will include the completion of 5,500 urgent repairs over the next three years and will expedite the re-evaluation process for homeowners in the process of selling or refinancing their homes. For more information on this program you can call our community office.
