"Sickle-cell disease affects a blood system, in which blood cells take the shape of a sickle. It causes great pain to many of those afflicted with the disease. Right now in the State of New York we have over 100,000 individuals that have been affected with this disease, which you can only get through your parents. It is an intra-generational disease that has claimed many victims over the course of many years," said Assemblywoman Alicia Hyndman, speaking on an Assembly adopted resolution that proclaims June 7, 2018, as Sickle Cell Health Care Priority Day in the State of New York.
