Carroll Introduces ‘Get Home Safe’ Act to Allow Students Unlimited Metrocard Swipes During States of Emergency

Legislation Will Give the Governor Discretion to Help Students and Families As Needed

Brooklyn, NY - Assemblymember Robert Carroll (D/WF-44) today announced the “Get Home Safe” Act to allow the Governor to direct the MTA to give students unlimited metrocard swipes during a declared State of Emergency.

“When New York City was hit with unprecedented flooding last week, parents became understandably distraught when their children, who were forced to reroute to get home, were stranded after countless transfers,” said Assemblymember Robert Carroll. "With climate change related disasters increasing in frequency and severity, this legislation gives the Governor another option to help make sure our children can get home safely during times of crisis.”
