Agency Mission

The Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is an administrative agency for both state and federal monies which support programs designed to combat crime, drugs and violence across the State.

Year-to-Year Change

In State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2001-02, the Executive proposes an All Funds decrease of $30,750,315 or 13.3 percent. This results in a General Fund State Operations appropriation totaling $44,877,300, an increase of $1,641,700 or 3.8 percent. The Executive also recommends General Fund Aid to Localities totaling $56,387,500, a decrease of $16,951,550 or 23 percent.

Legislative Proposals

In past years, State contributions to local criminal justice programs established meaningful partnerships with local governments and community-based providers of services. Although the Executive fails to provide funding in the SFY 2001-02 proposed budget for an array of local and community-based criminal justice related programs that have been funded in previous fiscal years, the Assembly proposes $9,850,000 to ensure the continuation of these vital programs. Funds are also included in the Assembly appropriation to compliment Federal Byrne anti-drug funding to support community-based anti-drug programs. The Assembly increases the Motor Vehicle Law Enforcement Fund appropriation by $1,200,000 to combat automobile theft and insurance fraud.
