Agriculture;
Alcoholism;
Economic Development, Job Creation, Commerce and Industry;
Higher Education; and
Tourism
“Here in Central New York, economic development along with agriculture, higher-education and tourism all go hand in hand; especially with the abundance of colleges and universities we have here, and the governor’s proposals to promote upstate tourism, agriculture and educational institutions through such programs like, “Taste NY,” and the “Next Generation Job Linkage Program.” Assemblyman Stirpe said Stirpe also noted that while serving on these committees he would work to ensure that sustainable good paying jobs are brought to the area, our children get the education they deserve, farmers get the tools that they need to thrive in a global market and that opportunities will be created for all our families; such as, turning the inland port proposed near the CSX rail yard in Manlius in to a reality. The local CSX yard is the first major stop on the main rail line from New York City. It is also conveniently located to an on-ramp for Interstate 481 and from there onto I-81 and I-90, and it is only a few miles from Syracuse Hancock International Airport and its air freight facilities, this will make it convenient for goods to be exported all over the United States and the world. This inland port would create 300 jobs on site as well as countless of others around the region, which will enable the CNY economy to thrive from small businesses to farms. Stirpe also hopes to use his position to start an internship program that pairs up local colleges and local small businesses so that students may get a hands-on approach in their chosen field and these smaller companies can draw from a local talent pool when it comes to filling a need in their organization. “Creating jobs and attracting businesses is a top priority,” Assemblyman Al Stirpe said “I look forward to working together with the governor and my colleagues in government to move our state and our region forward.”
