Assemblyman Al Stirpe: New Designation on Driver’s License Now Available to Military Veterans

Thanks to a new law (Ch. 487 of 2012), military veterans can now apply for a special designation on their driver’s license to prove their military status, Assemblyman Al Stirpe (D-Cicero) announced.

“This is just a small gesture of gratitude to the men and women who have bravely served our country,” Assemblyman Stirpe said. “Not only is it an improvement to help identify our veterans, but it will give them easier access to programs and benefits that are available.”

For no additional fee, qualified U.S. military veterans can apply for a special designation on their driver’s license by sending proof of an honorable discharge to the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles. This will eliminate the need to carry DD-214 forms to prove veteran status in order to receive discounts and utilize other services available to veterans.

Assemblyman Stirpe wants to remind veterans and their families that local businesses, from home repair to restaurants, offer discounts as a thank you for their service to our country.
