Assemblyman Stirpe Condemns Hobby Lobby Decision to Limit Women’s Access to Medical Care
“I am disappointed by today’s Hobby Lobby Supreme Court decision. By explicitly allowing for-profit companies to eliminate or limit birth control coverage, the Supreme Court is allowing individual women to be denied basic care based on someone else’s religious beliefs. Under no circumstances should a woman’s medical care be determined by her boss’s personal beliefs.
“This ruling exemplifies exactly why I continue to call on the Senate to take up the Women’s Equality Act in its entirety – including the provision to protect women’s reproductive rights. It is unfathomable that in this day and age women still do not have equal footing with men when it comes to basic rights. I will remain a steadfast advocate for women and continue fighting for full equality until it finally becomes a reality in New York State.”
