Forest Hills, NY – Following a reported head on traffic collision that occurred between a bus and a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) on July 20th on 69th Avenue in Forest Hills, local officials joined in calling on DOT to investigate the area and develop safety alternatives to prevent future incidents from occurring.

In their request, the officials – which included Congressmember Grace Meng, Assemblymember Andrew Hevesi, Senator Joe Addabbo, Councilmember Lynn Schulman, and Queens Community Board 6 Chair, Heather Dimitriadis, as well as District Manager Frank Gulluscio – noted that, “in addition to being home to local families, small businesses, and schools – this area also provides street parking to residents and visitors alike,” who, the officials relayed, “should not have to worry about navigating around speeding vehicles when going on foot to their destinations.”

In addition to the letter, the officials released a joint statement: “Our constituents in this area include seniors, young families, small business owners, school faculty and employees, and residents going about their daily lives and activities. It’s not a thruway – it’s a highly residential neighborhood and we need to make sure drivers treat it as such and thank DOT for its consideration of this request.”
