Gov. Hochul’s State of the State ‘Tone-Deaf’ and Myopic
A Statement from Assemblyman Ari Brown (R-Cedarhurst) following Gov. Hochul’s 2023 State of the State Address
“The governor must take the time to tour the state and listen to her constituents, since she seems oblivious to the plight of her fellow New Yorkers.
“Millions of New Yorkers are crying out for safer streets and a more affordable life; two issues that were blatantly absent from today’s address, in order to placate the far left which has hijacked her administration.
“Ironically, the governor wants to aggressively build more housing. As a real estate, zoning, planning board and construction professional, I can tell you that more housing is not necessary when there is a mass exodus of historic proportions in our state. This is a play to punish suburbanites and the villages and communities they live in by taking away their zoning powers. It’s an attempt to transform suburbia into New York City.
“Turning around our state starts with repealing dangerous cashless bail laws, reinstating our moratorium on state gasoline taxes and bringing down our cost of living, which is crushing New Yorkers. We also need to support our police, rather than calling to ‘defund’ and remove them.
“Gov. Hochul has become consumed by Albany’s power players and special interests, instead of listening to the people. Regardless, my focus will remain on holding her accountable, repealing cashless bail and making Long Island and New York more affordable for all.”
